More Details

The Emerald Green Arborvitae, scientifically known as Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald Green', is a popular choice for those looking for a fast-growing, low-maintenance evergreen tree with a classic pyramidal shape. At maturity, it can reach a height of up to 15-20 feet and a width of 3-4 feet, making it an ideal choice for hedges or as a privacy screen. Its beautiful emerald green foliage provides year-round interest and is resistant to winter burn, making it an excellent choice for colder climates. With proper care, this tree is sure to add beauty and value to any landscape.

Growth rate: Fast growing; grows 12-14 in. tall and 3-4 in. wide per year. Reaches a mature height of 10–15 ft and a spread of 3–4 ft.

Pruning: Only prune to shape or remove damaged or diseased branches, and prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Fertilization: Fertilize in early spring before new growth with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer.

Winter Protection: Water well before the ground freezes and consider adding a layer of mulch around the base to protect roots.

When planting Emerald Green Arborvitae, make sure to choose a location with well-drained soil and full to partial sun exposure. For container planting, select a pot with sufficient drainage holes and fill it with high-quality potting mix. Dig a hole that is slightly wider and as deep as the root ball when planting in the ground. Place the tree in the hole, backfill with soil, and water well. Mulch around the base of the tree to retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Ensure that the soil stays consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the tree's first growing season.

The Emerald Green Arborvitae prefers full sun to partial shade and requires moderate watering, particularly during its first year of growth. It is best to water deeply and allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Once established, it can tolerate drought conditions.
