More Details

Indigo Flair™ Mahonia, scientifically known as Mahonia confusa, is a low-maintenance evergreen shrub with a unique aesthetic that adds intrigue to any garden or landscape. Famous for its holly-like leaves and winter-blooming, fragrant yellow flowers, this plant is a season-extending powerhouse. Ideal for those who want an attractive garden year-round, Indigo Flair™ Mahonia performs exceptionally well across various climates and settings.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate growth rate; mature height of 3 to 4 feet and width of 3 to 4 feet.

Please note: Images on our website depict plants and trees at full maturity to showcase their expected grown characteristics. These images are illustrative examples only and do not represent the size of plants or trees upon delivery.

Pruning: Minimal pruning is required. If necessary, prune to shape the plant in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Fertilization: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to encourage healthy growth and vibrant blooms.

Winter Protection: Generally, this plant is cold-hardy but may benefit from a light layer of mulch around its base for extra winter protection in colder climates.

Choose a location in partial to full shade with well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth. Gently remove the plant from its container, place it in the hole, and ensure the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill the hole with soil, tamping down firmly to remove any air pockets. Water the plant thoroughly and, if desired, apply a 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and regulate temperature.

Indigo Flair™ Mahonia prefers partial to full shade and requires consistent watering, particularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Once established, it can tolerate less frequent watering, making it somewhat drought-tolerant and relatively easy to care for.
